Trailhead Ambassador and Solitude Monitoring Tool Box
Help protect and preserve the wild character of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex while connecting with fellow outdoor enthusiasts and wilderness visitors.
The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation is seeking volunteers to support two important wilderness stewardship programs: Trailhead Ambassadors and Solitude Monitoring Volunteers. These opportunities allow you to spend time in places you love while contributing valuable information and education that helps protect wilderness experiences for future generations.
Trailhead Ambassadors serve as a friendly and welcoming presence at popular trailheads throughout the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. Volunteers provide visitors with information about wilderness ethics, Leave No Trace principles, current conditions, safety considerations, and responsible recreation practices.
Solitude Monitoring Volunteers help collect important data about visitor use and wilderness experiences. Through observations made while hiking, volunteers record visitor encounters, campsite occupancy, and other indicators that help land managers understand and protect opportunities for solitude—one of the defining qualities of wilderness.
Whether you're passionate about educating visitors, collecting meaningful data, or simply looking for a new way to give back to public lands, these programs offer a rewarding opportunity to support wilderness stewardship while spending time in the backcountry.
Training is provided, and volunteers can participate as their schedules allow. Join us in helping preserve the wilderness character, solitude, and natural beauty of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex.
