WCC Interns as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

by Clare Wirzbicki, 2021 WCC Intern

As the 2021 Wilderness Conservation Corp crew got to know each other better, they each found their role within the crew – eventually realizing that each of them personified a member of the 1980s classic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. WCC Intern Clare Wirzbicki explains how each of their personalities fit their animated counterpart.

Leonardo: Sloan Miles

When it comes to getting people motivated, Sloan truly embodies the Leonardo aspect. When we are all tired from another hot grueling day of work no one can get the group together and pumped to work like Sloan.

Raphael: Aiden Ried

Typical Raph to get angry at the trees. Though with Raph’s fiery energy, Aiden is always ready to cut the trees like they personally wronged him. He also has a nice side to him making him an awesome person to work with, as you work hard and have fun.

Donatello: Bryce Johnston

Though everyone is true to their character, Bryce truly is Donatello. With knowledge that only the most obscure library could know about there’s truly no reason to look up anything in the backcountry because you can ask Bryce and he’ll know. The inventor in him is always helpful when working on a problem tree or thinking through cuts.

Michelangelo: Clare (me)

Being the youngest and probably the silliest it was only fitting that I be Michelangelo. I always like to keep work light and fun so I’ll always have a joke or something prepared to lighten the mood. Being compared to the energizer bunny I’ll take as a compliment but after a 23 mile hike out my positive attitude wasn’t the most liked, though secretly they loved it.

Lesson:

Overall from working closely with these amazing people it goes to show just how important everyone in your crew is. Everyone has something different to offer and things that will come naturally to them. By letting people fall into their skill set while on hitch it can make a world of difference on the work and experience you have. So, I am grateful for how different everyone in my crew is because that’s what makes us successful.
