Project Description

Join your fellow volunteers for some good times in the Great Bear Wilderness! Volunteers will meet AHS crew leader, John Park,  Saturday night in Hungry Horse and camp at the Ranger Station. The next morning you will meet the BMWF Crew Leader caravan the hour drive to the trailhead.  After sorting gear and supplies for the packer and shouldering your backpack, you will hike the 11 miles into camp. Basecamp will be along the Wild and Scenic Middle Fork of the Flathead River in the Great Bear Wilderness. Monday-Thursday volunteers will be working on trail #340 tward the summit of Red Plume Mountain.   Clearing down trees and reestablishing the trail bed (tread) will be the primary focus.  Pulaskis, crosscut saws and hand saws will be the tools of choice. After work relax by the river or try your luck at fishing! Friday the groups will pack up and hike back out to the trailhead and civilization. BMWF will provide all food, tools and group gear.

This is world class trout fishing! If you would like to fish, you must have a Montana fishing license. You can get information on cost and buy online here:
