BMWF #8: Chipmunk Peak #99

Type of Project: backpacking, trailwork
Rating: Strenuous
Trip Dates: 08/12/2010 to 08/19/2010
Location: Proposed Wilderness outside of Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, Spotted Bear Ranger District, Flathead National Forest
Work: Come see for yourself why this area is proposed wilderness! Rarely visited, rough country, this area exemplifies “wild”. A major wildlife corridor between The Bob Country and the Swan Mountains, these expansive ridges are prime big game winter range and they need your help to become wilderness! Spend a week working trails "logging out" the fallen trees on the trail and re-establishing the trail with spot retread and removing brush growing into the trail corridor. Be prepared for 3-8 mile hikes from camp to the worksite and get ready to dig! The views are spectacular from the ridge with the towering Swan Peak and the Swan Range to the south and the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the west; don't forget to bring your camera! Once you submit your registration to BMWF, you will receive more detailed project information including a suggested packing list and driving directions.

This is a backcountry camping trip with a primitive campsite. BMWF will coordinate pack support to bring in tools, food, group gear and maybe some personal gear. You will be asked to provide your own gear and assist in camp chores. Sturdy boots, long pants and work gloves are required. All tools, safety gear and food will be provided.
Total Miles: 7 (to backcountry camp, 5-10 miles/day to worksite)
Elevation Gain: +3000'
RSVP: Monday, August 2nd
