BMWF #6: Castle Lake Weeds & Float

Type of Project: backpacking, trailwork, handpulling weeds, floating
Rating: Strenuous
Trip Dates: 07/23/2010 to 07/27/2010
Location: Upper Middle Fork Flathead River from Granite Ck to Bear Ck
Work: We’ve teamed up with Glacier Raft Company and Snowy Springs Outfitters to coordinate the details of this 3rd annual project. It has a little bit of everything including trail work, backpacking, cabin use, hiking, weed eradication, and a FLOAT TRIP! First things first….the crew will backpack all personal gear and tools into Granite Cabin. The crew will use the cabin for cooking, and tent under the stars. Work will include cutting brush on the Castle Lake trail for one day. We'll also spend two days hand-pulling Yellow Toadflax weeds around Castle Lake.

Then you'll be rewarded with a FLOAT OUT at the end of the project! Glacier Raft Company will supply individual inflatable kayaks to paddle your way out of the backcountry. Personal gear will be packed out and waiting for us at the take-out (so keep it ultra-light). Only register for this project if you are comfortable on the water and in whitewater Class II-III rapids, please. River guides will join us, but each volunteer is responsible for paddling their own boat and you'll definitely get soaked!
Total Miles: 6 (hiking), ~30 river miles (floating!)
Elevation Gain: +500 (to the lake)
RSVP: FULL
