Celebrate National Trails Day with the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation, American Hiking Society and the Montana Conservation Corps. For 2010, crews will be doing a make-over on Skiumah Creek Trail #204 in the Great Bear Wilderness off Hwy 2. We will divide and conquer the work with some crews hiking and clearing logs and brush, while others learn technical skills to install retaining structures on a section of trail falling off the hillside. That means cross-cut work, cutting back overgrown brush, utilizing native materials to install retaining features, and some digging where the trail is sloughing downhill.
After a day on the trail, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation invites all volunteers to a tailgate BBQ at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station from 4-6pm. The BMWF will provide all the grub. Join us! Once you submit your registration to BMWF, you will receive more detailed project information including a suggested packing list and driving directions.
Participants should bring a daypack with lunch, snacks, water (3 liters recommended) and lightweight rain gear. Sturdy boots, long pants (no shorts!) and work gloves are required. All tools, safety gear and BBQ food will be provided. |
