Leaving a Lasting Legacy
Making a gift that will provide the greatest meaning to you and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation helps create an enduring legacy in our treasured wilderness areas.
Your planned gift can make a difference in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex for years to come by strengthening existing programs and providing for future growth. The best plans are created by first, deciding what your goals are and second, determining how to accomplish your goals.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is an irrevocable trust that generates a potential income stream for you, as the donor to the CRT, or other beneficiaries, with the remainder of the donated assets going to your favorite charity or charities. The CRT is a highly effective estate/tax mitigation tool for reducing or eliminating capital gains tax on highly appreciated assets such as stocks or real estate.
The BMWF is known for preserving the Bob – and we also help preserve charitable investments. You can help the BMWF create a funding source for wilderness stewardship with the help of our fund facilitators, Northwestern Mutual or Whitefish Community Foundation. As a benefit to donors, the burden of creating and administering a charitable remainder trusts is removed.
To see if a CRT is the right option for you and to set up a CRT that funds direct program support for trail clearing and conservation stewardship of the Bob, contact Mike Kelley at Northwestern Mutual Financial Advisers, 406.270.5030. Our partners at Northwestern Mutual are very effective at helping you determine the suitability of a CRT for your tax mitigation strategy and charitable giving.
You can significantly reduce taxes on appreciated assets while leaving a lasting legacy to the Bob by creating a CRT that funds the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation Endowment Fund. The Whitefish Community Foundation has managed BMWF's fund for 6 years with an average annual return of 6 percent. Donors that pay Montana Income Tax can use a CRT to take advantage of the Montana Endowment Tax Credit. To take this path, contact Linda Engh Grady at the Whitefish Community Foundation 406.863.1781.
The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation has been maintaining trails and working to conserve the integrity of the wilderness ecosystem for over 15 years. This work is critical for those who seek solitude in the wilderness. As federal budgets shrink, the importance of the volunteer efforts organized by BMWF are growing. Donating to the BMWF Endowment Fund will ensure that this important work continues in the future.
Your pledge today will ensure the trail system will be maintained tomorrow. Be a part of this enduring legacy!
The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation Endowment is invested with the Whitefish Community Foundation.
