PROJECT END DATE:
Project Start Date:
Rocky Mountain Ranger District
miles to camp:
8 miles with +400' elevation gain and 700' lost.
Join your fellow Backcountry Hunters and Anglers for some boots on the ground stewardship on your public lands in the Badger Two Medicine! Volunteers will meet the Crew Leader Sunday morning at the Summit trailhead. After sorting gear and supplies for the packer and shouldering your backpack, you will hike the 6 miles into camp. Basecamp will be a primitive backcountry site. You will use Leave No Trace camping techniques to minimize impacts of camp life on the surrounding area. Monday-Thursday volunteers will be working on trail #137 on the Continental Divide trail. Clearing down trees and opening up the trail corridor will be the primary focus. Crosscut saws, pulaskis, and hand saws will be the tools of choice. After work relax by the South Fork of the Two Med river or try your luck at fishing! You will also have a day off midweek to explore the area (scout some future hunting spots perhaps?) Friday the group will pack up and hike back out to the trailhead and civilization.
BHA region one Board Member Frank Vitale and his string of mules are volunteering to pack tools, food and some personal gear into the Wilderness for you!
Trail #137 in the shadows of Elk Calf Mountain is in need of some serious maintenance to make accessible to backcountry hunters. This trail is in hunting district 415. BMWF will provide all food, tools and group gear. For a packing list and other helpful information:
