Project Start Date:
Rocky Mountain Ranger District
Middle Fork Teton
miles to camp:
5+ miles with +1,500' elevation gain and 200 lost.
Join fellow veterans for five days in the Wilderness! This trip will allow participants the opportunity to find camaraderie with fellow veterans, be physically challenged while experiencing a remote Wilderness area, and most importantly, have fun!
After meeting Nathaan, Jon and BMWF Crew Leader at the trailhead, you will sort gear and supplies for the packer and shoulder your backpack, for a 5 mile hike into camp. Basecamp will be on just below Route Creek Pass. Wednesday-Friday volunteers will be working on trail #108 toward the pass. Limbing encroaching trees, reestablishing the trail bed (tread) and rock removal will be the primary focus. Pulaskis, shovels and hand saws will be the tools of choice. This trail accesses some of the most remote places in The Bob and Montana! Your work on this trail is needed to keep these wild places accessible to backpackers and horse parties. After a hard day's work, relax back at camp or hike to Route Creek Pass for some amazing views. On Saturday the group will pack up and hike back out to the trailhead and civilization.
Further Objectives of this experience:
- Connection with other veterans
- Personal growth
- Learn how to travel comfortably in the backcountry
- Through teamwork focus on Wilderness Stewardship
- Built trust and communication through an expedition experience
- Allow for reflection and solitude through individual, one on one time and time with the group
