Project Description

UPDATE: At the request of the packer (Rocky Mountain Ranger District) we have moved trailheads from Benchmark to Mortimer. This is a shorter hike to the back country camp AND added bonus...K Bar L Ranch will be providing a boat ride from the trailhead to their ranch at the north end of Gibson reservoir. This will cut off about 4.5 miles of your hike..

You will hike into The Bob starting at the Rocky Mountain Front and camp along the scenic North Fork of the Sun River. Volunteers will cut fallen trees to clear trail #249 making it passable through a burned area. The cross-cut saw will become your favorite tool as you continue clearing the loop around goat hill. A day off will allow you time to fish in the river or explore Pretty Prairie, a beautiful open prairie full of ripe grass and wild flowers.
